Low-soot A Startup Aimed at Tackling Climate Change
It’s getting hot in here, and it’s going to keep getting hotter. According to NOAA's Annual Climate Report, the combined land and ocean temperature has increased by more than twice the rate since 1981. The primary reason for this is the world moving towards a materialistic way of life, burning of fossil fuels like coal and crude oil, de-forestation to make urban settlements and farmlands and Industrial Agricultural techniques which use chemical fertilizers that are harmful to the biodiversity of the soil.
Overall, every year 51 billion tonnes of Greenhouse Gasses are emitted due to human activities...
AT THIS RATE WE'LL HIT A CLIMATE CATASTROPHE BY 2050 To avoid a climate catastrophe, we need to get to net-ZERO emissions by 2045.
In order to tackle the issues of Climate change, a startup by the name of Lowsoot is formed by Sachin Sengar. Started in 2021, the primary goal of this organization is to reverse climate change by reducing the carbon footprint of each individual. They also help fund various Green Initiatives to tackle climate change and environmental degradation. On their blog, they discuss in-depth about what Climate Change is and what are the various ways to live a more Eco-Friendly and more Sustainable way of Living. A must read if you are interested in topics like this. Also they have initiatives made in an Individual level and corporate level to tackle Climate Change.
Here are a couple of things you can do right now and support this noble and necessary cause.
Using their CO2 Calculator, you can calculate your overall Carbon Footprint by adding all the greenhouse gas emissions from everyday activities like driving a car, cooking food at home to purchases one makes. Small changes and reductions in our everyday activities can make a big difference on a large scale if we take it seriously. I urge everyone to click on this link (https://lowsoot.com/calculation-brief/) to understand what your Carbon Emission Value is. They also provide tips to how you can reduce your carbon footprint and make a small change in reversing Climate Change. It only will take 5 minutes of your time.
Adopt a Mangrove Tree
By adopting one Mangrove Tree, you can erase 3000 Kilograms of Greenhouse Gases each year, which is a lot! So far they have managed to plant 100,000 trees Radhanagar, Taranagar, Rajapur, Hemnagar and a lot more villages. These trees cumulatively erase 13.5 lakh tonnes of CO2 each year. But there is a lot more work to be done and a lot more planting to do. If you, like me, care for the environment, please do make a monthly donation here. Not only can you save taxes doing this (According to Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1956) but can also take benefits of curated discounts of sustainable brands up to 2000 Rupees. They also send you Monthly Updates about your Mangrove Tree, so you know that it’s in safe hands.
Supporting other Green Initiatives
There are other initiatives supported and promoted by Lowsoot that you must check out as well. A little investment in any one of these causes can go a long way in making this world a more Eco-Friendly place to live. These include Organic Farming initiatives to improving the lives of Rural People in the country.
In conclusion, human activity has led to increasing greenhouse gases each year, and that is having a direct impact on life on this planet. If we don’t make the right changes in our livelihoods, the damage to our planet will be disastrous and irreversible. We must act now if we have any chance of surviving and thriving in this beautiful place. This world is a gift, a blessing and we must take care of it.
Doing things like using reusable shopping bags instead of plastic bags, avoiding wastage of food, limiting our meat consumption, buying only responsibly-made clothing (made from recycled or eco-friendly materials), Cycling to work or carpooling to work, recycling your wastes in a proper manner, avoiding wastage of water in any way; are small changes we can make in our lives that will have a big difference in the long run. We have only one world, let’s make it the best place to live. Cheers.
