The White Desert Is Calling!

Posted on December 2, 2017 by Dhruvi Meel

An expanse of white sand stretching out to meet the golden colors of the sky during a sunset that is so spectacular that you’d be hard-pressed to forget it, this is a sight that takes place every day in the Rann of Kutch. Nature works in such mysterious ways and sometimes the most unexpected of places can turn into sights to behold, one such place is the white sand desert of Rann of Kutch situated in Gujarat.

On a full moon night, the white sand turns into an endless expanse of shimmers reflecting the moonlight and there’s nothing quite as mesmerizing as that. To celebrate the extraordinary beauty of the Kutch desert and its lifestyle, the Gujarat government started the Rann Utsav.

The Rann Utsav is a festival that celebrates the uniqueness of the Rann of Kutch, its culture and its way of life. The festival which started as a three-day event has now eventually turned into a three-month-long celebration full of fun cultural activities, music, and dance.

Organised by the Gujarat Tourism Department, the Rann Utsav includes packages where visitors can put up in luxury tent houses during their stay, the festival also includes various other activities like camel cart excursions, paramotoring, meditation, yoga and ATV rides. The festival starts from 1st November 2017 and lasts up until 20th February 2018. If you’re planning to visit then you should also look at exploring the handicraft work indigenous to the Kutch and maybe a visit to the wildlife sanctuary as well. It is advised to book a travel package with a trustworthy tour agency to ensure that you have proper arrangements for staying and traveling.

The Rann of Kutch is a land of the extremes where the temperatures may soar up to 49°C in the day and go below 3°C at night but amongst this barren expanse of extremities lies the chance to see nature come together to create the most magical of sights. At night when the moonlight hits the white sand, the entire desert transforms into an endless shimmering expanse, an indelible sight. Tents at the Rann Utsav

The entire experience of staying up in tents in the middle of a desert is as close to living the banjara lifestyle as the urban population can so ditch your beach vacation this winter and head on over to the Rann Utsav for a weekend full of great food, amazing music, and even better sights!
